amazing quotes [Oct. 26th, 2009|01:49 am]
Kent (on SYTYCDC finale show, Jaime-Ray's yellow feathery costume for the Rhumba): Jeeze, it's like Big Bird got caught inside a giant plane propeller!

Melissa: Nicole, do you know how many people die of regular Influenza each year?
Me: A lot?
Melissa: No, MORE!
BAHAHAHA

I feel this is the only place I can say this and not be beaten up (literally and metaphorically speaking). I cannot stand that being Jewish automatically means that you have to support Israel and their government, and be nice/like Israelis. NO. Fuck them, FUCK ISRAEL, and I am ashamed to call myself Jewish. (this being said, there are obviously some Israelis that are incredibly nice, thoughtful, and wonderful people, but I have yet to meet more than a handful of them.) You can call me prejudiced, self-hating... whatever. I really could care less. I really am one of the most tolerable people you'll ever meet, but when I am wronged, or insulted, or lied to, by practically every single Israeli person I meet, well I'm sorry but NO SOUP FOR YOU. Also, I know this issue happened six years ago (I was 14 - not exactly aware of world issues), but I recently (...tonight.) read an article about the death of Rachel Corrie. Instead of writing it all out here, I'll just post a link to what happened: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Corrie
Oh and also, in the last issue of the NOW paper, there is an article about The Koffler Centre suddenly and completely dissassociating themselves with an artist, Reena Katz (who was setting up an exhibit for Luminato in the gallery), all because they found out about her views on Israel. First of all, she is Jewish, and embraces her roots and was taught to love her culture. Her exhibit is about celebrating Judaism's Toronto roots! So what's the reason behind her excommunication? Well, the lovely Lori Starr (executive director of Koffler Centre) clicked on Reena Katz's facebook page and found an Israeli Apartheid Week icon, and discovered that she had signed a petition calling for Zionism to be relegated to the "dustbin of history". This is what Starr said:

"To refer to Israel as an apartheid state is to call Israel a criminal state and to suggest that it be shut down."

But apparently, all of this is on Katz's website. She doesn't hide any of it. She says: "They could have done the research a year and a half ago, when we began the project."

Yeah, douchebags. What she said!!!

Anyways... to make a long story short, several other people pulled out, including Baycrest Centre and a vocal coach have backed out, leaving Katz with shreds of an art exhibit. I just want to quote what she says at the end of the article:

"As Jews, we need to look at the history of what we've done in the region, stop abusing the human rights of Palesinians and work together to find a coexistant answer to this global problem. One-state solution? Two-state? I'm not even going there - that's for the people in the region to decide."

"I'm the one in my family who bothered to learn Yiddish. I'm the one who bothered to study klezmer (Jewish folk music), who bothered to perform it, who went to Poland because that's where my grandmother's from. I'm the wrong person to vilify."

Amen, Reena, Amen.

Honestly, this has practically nothing to do with being Jewish anymore... just the connection between being Jewish and Israel. Her art exhibit sounded like it was going to be SO awesome. There were going to be these Chinese kids teaching elderly Jewish women (grandmothers) how to play the Chinese version of Mah Jong on the terrace of Baycrest (a Mah Jong tournament). Plus, spontaneous performances of songs by the Barry Sisters, a 50s duo who sang a hybrid of Jazz and Klezmer, reworked by Katz so they could be performed backwards by singers of different genders. This exhibit is linked to Katz's social, queer and Jewish history. It's a crime that it won't be realized.

[Current Mood | Tired!]

Today I finished Book 5 of the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris... And I am sad. But I am also excited!!! AND BROKE!!!! I can't wait to spend money (that I shouldn't spend but who the hell cares because it's literature) on the next books. Maybe I'll buy two!!! :O

My parents are putting my house for sale. I don't know where we're moving, all I know is that it should be somewhere in the general area of North York, I think. So that's good... but I'm sad because I've lived in this house my whole life, essentially. So far it hasn't struck me, but I know it will as soon as things are more packed away.

Passover is tomorrow! :O

VOYAGER IS AMAZING. Seven of Nine is sex. I'm not kidding. She's super duper hot. I love season four. I WILL NOT STOP!!!!

P.S.:  I <3 you, Seven. You're so Borg-a-licious.

Freaking hilarious. [Mar. 10th, 2009|04:54 pm]

Dear Mary,

I don't know how to tell you this, but our romance is over. I think I realized it when you smacked my ass at the Elton John concert and I saw you pull the clothes off of my father. I'm sure you're middle-class enough to understand that the Middle East is planning their revenge on you. I'm returning you're Hannah Montana underwear to you, but I'll keep your glass eye as a memory. You should know that I haven't showered in a month, and I have a passionate interest for mice.

Love always,

Nicole <3

half of you [Dec. 8th, 2008|10:57 pm]
[Current Mood | mellow]

Christmas is almost here!!!

It seems like I am more excited for Crimbo than Hanukkah... which is probably true. Well they're both pretty awesome, actually. The only downside (ish) to this time of year is that I always have a hard time decided on what to get my friends/family/loved ones. Why is it so hard!!?? Well I'll tell you. I'll use Kent as an example. I do know what I want to get him, but I'm not sure if his family will get him identical gifts. So I must make my rounds, asking everyone until I know what they're getting him/not getting him. Which is slightly annoying... but it's better than him opening two identical gifts.  But I do have a hard time deciding on other people. Like my piano teacher, and Kent's parents/grandparents. And his brothers. Guh... oh well! I'll think of things. :D

I downloaded twelve tracks from True Blood!! Here's my awesome new playlist:

1) Bad Things - Jace Everett
2) Bones - Little Big Town
3) First Taste - Fiona Apple
4) I Play Chicken with the Train - Cowboy Troy
5) Half of You - Cat Power
6) Lullaby - Dixie Chicks
7) Pass You By - Gillian Welch
8) Christine's Tune - The Flying Burrito Brothers
9) Trouble - Ray Lamontagne
10) To love Is To Bury - Cowboy Junkies
11) That Smell - Lynyrd Skynyrd
12) Until I Wake Up - Dishwalla

I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself for finding these, and then downloading them. Because I'm a pirate... YARGHHH! If you don't like country music or anything of the sort, don't listen to most of these songs. lol
Everytime I listen to Half of You, I get all sappy/romantic and *sighhh*. Oh Bill. I wish I had a fireplace... hehehe. I wish that song was longer though.
Man. I should get back into bellydancing. I was looking online today for tutorials/lessons on Youtube and found a few, but they aren't really good. I pretty much have to make do with what I remember from taking lessons. Which is surprisingly a lot! :D And I have music. And I just answered my own... question?? meh. I'm also trying to learn how to "club dance" properly, so I'll be prepared this Saturday. I'm going to Stefan's gf Sabrina's birthday party, which is at Circa. I want to dance shmexy. So I practice! Can you tell I'm not really the club type? lol.
Yay Kent's coming over for dinner tomorrow!!! And we're going to watch StarWars, the Clone Wars movie!! How exciting! :D I want to make something delicious for dinner. hmmm. I must start looking.
I LOVE Bjork and I love Sia, and Regina Spektor, and I love True Blood.

I want some amaretto and a fireplace plz.
